How exactly do you do yoga?

Are there any websites that could teach me how to do yoga? Is yoga suitable for a 14 year old male teenager? In Australia where do I buy yoga supplies (e.g. mat) Is it okay to do yoga in the morning or is it better to do in the evening? How long should I leave to do yoga in the morning/evening? and What are the essential things I need to buy to do yoga?

Thanks

Sorry just to post links, but there is so much advice online.
As for the mat, why not fond a couple of big towels to start with and see how you get on?
If you type in yoga mats, Australia there are sites online, but I am not familiar with the suppliers so am reluctant to name a particular one.

Time of day? – when it suits you.

What is the best yoga mat out there?

I have been through two mats so far….the first was a thicker mat from Gaiam that was thick but it was also slippery. The second was from Gaiam and it was a natural jute material. Unfortunately this one started to disintegrate after a while and was entirely too thin.

I was thinking about another one from Gaiam….just kidding….I’m ready to switch brands. What do you suggest?

There seem to be a few opinions about this. Here are some websites that have good ones and their reviews:

What’s the difference between an ashtanga yoga mat and a normal yoga mat?

An Ashtanga yoga mat is also known as a rug. Unlike the typical yoga sticky mat, the Ashtanga mat is made of cotton. They were used for hundreds of years in India before the sticky mats were invented. The cotton absorbs sweat and a lot of people who practice Ashtanga use it on top of a sticky mat, but it can be used alone. When I do Ashtanga, I usually just use my sticky mat though. Is a yoga mat necessary when your floor is carpeted?

I have never used a mat at home, however, I do use a sheet to separate my body from the carpet.

A mat is not absolutely necessary. It is useful for a few things. It defines the parameters of the posture, it is cushy, and it makes the floor not slippery (carpet would work, but sheet?). You can tell for yourself if you need it.
